Many of our TCA Family Members rely on funding from the Arete Scholars Program so that their children can attend our school. We have just received word that the IRS has made changes to the regulations concerning the tax credits for those donating to the program. This change has the potential to effect thousands of students across the states of Louisiana and Georgia.
The Arete Scholars fund is asking for our help. We need to come together as a TCA Family and let our voice be heard by advocating for this program. Please review the ways you can help below:
1. Prayer. First and foremost bow your head and pray for God’s favor on the Arete Scholars Program. Pray for the hearts and minds of the people working on this regulation at the IRS to be opened to the plight of thousands of families that may lose the opportunity to attend the school of their choice.
2. Contact the IRS. Urge the authors of the IRS Notice to issue guidance on Notice 2018-54 promptly and preserve all federal tax deductions that tax credit scholarship donors receive for their donations to scholarship granting organizations. Ms. Mon Lam and Ms. Merrill Feldstein of the Office of Associate Chief Counsel can be reached at 202-317-5100.
3. Contact your Louisiana State Representative. Ask your state reps to also request immediate clarification from the IRS on Notice 2018-54. Find your representative and contact information HERE.
4. Help identity prospective tax-credit donors. Any Louisiana taxpayer — both individuals and corporations — may invest in the education of Louisiana children in exchange for a 95% state tax credit. Learn more about the giving opportunity HERE.
Scripture says in Romans 8:28 and 31, “And we know that in all things He works for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose…And what then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, than who can be against us?”
We have seen God’s hand time and time again come to the aid of our school. Let’s stand together with Him and do our part through prayer and the actions that He has laid before us. Continue to pray for those families who have applied for the scholarship and are still awaiting funding; pray for peace and that God would use this experience to increase our faith in Him.
